Children's Programs ages 8 &up
Little Dragons ages 4 1/2 - 7

At Brian Mayes Karate School, our children's program is second to none. Although the ability to defend oneself is very important, there are other aspects of development which we take pride in nurturing:

  • Physically weak children become stronger.
  • Respect
  • Manners
  • Concentration and focus - Children with short attention spans learn to focus their attention.
  • Hand/eye coordination - Uncoordinated children become agile.
  • Social skills - Introverted children become more extroverted.
  • Self control - Children who lose their tempers or cry easily learn personal self discipline and to control their emotions better.

All the above results in Self Respect and Self Confidence for your child.

By concentrating on the above aspects we have earned the respect and reputation of having the strongest children's program in the area. We have a strong commitment to the development of today's youth. Our program helps our students perform well in other sports and the strengthened ability to focus and concentrate help them at school as well.

Our children's program is set up to strengthen your child mentally, physically, and emotionally. As each child is different, our stress with each child is individualized.

What we specialize in:

Well Rounded
: A Brian Mayes Karate student has several qualities. Not only is karate a good workout that keeps you physically active but it builds character as well. The karate training includes working on manners, self control, self respect and respect for others. Further, one gains motivation through achieving goals, discipline from practicing, confidence from achieving goals, and control from working with partners. One also gains reaction time, coordination, speed, power, and control from drills we do in class. Students in school get better grades, and get in less trouble.

Motivation: Motivation plays a big part in any martial arts, both self and from others. By learning to set goals and then achieving those goals one learns self motivation. Students here also receive motivation from everyone around them.

Respect: One learns respect by first receiving respect, and then returns respect to those they look up to.

Discipline: To be able to take things on yourself and not have to be told to do it. Through repetition and encouragement one learns discipline.

Confidence: At Brian Mayes Karate your always a team player, on the field and never sitting on the bench. “Life's battles don't always go to the stronger or faster hand; they to the one who always thinks I CAN.”

Goals: You are taught to set goals. Long and short term goals. Your long term goal is to one day earn that black belt, but you first much reach those short term goals by progressing to the next belt level, which is just as important! With each goal you reach you are rewarded with the next belt. Here you learn that working hard pays off!

Family values: What one learns in class is taken home with them.

This school's karate program is based on several fundamental principles:

  • Anyone can learn and benefit from karate training.
  • Each individual has his/her own potential and speed of learning.
  • Although karate is originally an oriental martial art, I am an American teaching Americans.
  • We feel that people are inherently good.

Our program reaches beyond the ordinary boundaries of just self defense instruction and results in an overall betterment of the student, both in and outside of the school.
